Đảo Khỉ (Monkey Island)

Đảo Khỉ (Monkey Island) is the intimate name that Southern Vietnamese have given for this particular area of the famous Mangrove Forest in Cần Giờ Biosphere Reserve, Vietnam. Cần Giờ Biosphere Reserve (Khu dự trữ sinh quyển rừng ngập mặn Cần Giờ) is a wetland located 50 km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City.

Dominated by mangrove and many rare species, the reserve is an important wildlife sanctuary in Vietnam and has been listed as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO, with the forest’s area of 75,740 ha and over 150 botanical species.

Here, you will have the chance to enjoy the fresh and clean air of the wildest nature, admire the beauty of the stalks, the interlaced tree roots of the Mangrove Forest, and especially get teased mercilessly by the mischievous monkeys at Lâm Viên tourist resort.

On normal days, there are about from 400 to 500 visitors coming to Đảo Khỉ,’ while on the weekends the number of tourists raises from 1000 to 1500 people.

The monkeys in Lâm Viên are very brave, some even too brave. They are not afraid of humans at all. Conversely, sometimes visitors are frightened by their shameless robberies during day time and their excessive “intimacy” sometimes scares the heck out of little boys and girls.

From only a few dozens, now Đảo Khỉ has almost 2000 monkeys of all kinds, some belong to very rare species. The jobs of supervising and taking care for the monkeys are assigned to the staff members of the Lâm Viên Tourism Management.
